Fighting For Love

Chapter 1: First Meetings

Flashback-3 years ago

“It’s very lovely to meet you both,” spoke the gorgeous girl, “I’m Padmé, Padmé……” she paused, remembering her father’s words. To never reveal her full name especially to strangers, she thought for a moment “Solo, Padmé Solo,” she told them shaking both hands of the two handsome young men before her.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Padmé,” the first one spoke. He was slightly taller than his companion. Light brown hair and green blue coloured eyes and he was dressed in Jedi robes. He was a Jedi Padmé thought, hearing him go on “I’m Obi-Wan Kenobi, and this is my brother Anakin Skywalker,” he told her. Anakin had thick blond hair, bright blue eyes and dark Jedi robes as Padmé raised one eyebrow.

“You don’t share the same last name?” she questioned seeing the two brothers laugh.

“We have the same father except different mothers. We prefer not to think of each other as step brothers,” Obi-Wan explained as Anakin wrapped an arm around his shoulder.

“That’s right; we look out for each other,” he pointed out as Padmé blushed.

“Well, I feel quite honored to be in the presence of two Jedi,” she confessed as Obi-Wan smiled, it was the sweetest smile she’s ever seen.

“You’re well protected by us,” he assured her raising one of her hands, he kisses it, making her blush even more ahead of Anakin ordering three drinks. The night was only just beginning and Padmé felt her life changing right there and then, thanks to her new friends.

Chapter 2: Surprising Announcement

3 years later……

Courscant

“Holding a tournament King Ruwee of Naboo is,” Master Yoda informed them. Obi-Wan and Anakin had been summoned to his chambers privately. They watched the small Jedi Master sit atop of his seat while they sat opposite him allowing him to continue;

“Entered you both, your father has,” he stunned them however both Obi-Wan and Anakin nodded, a twinkle in Anakin’s eye. He loved any chance to show how his skills have grown.

“What is the prize master?” he asked gleaming with interest as Obi-Wan only shook his head, with a smirk. Yoda looked up at them, a firm look

“Offered his daughter, the Princess, he has. He wants to find her a husband. One who will protect and love her forever,” he explained.

“When do we leave master?” Obi-Wan asked as Yoda concluded.

“Leave tomorrow morning, you both will. May the force be with you,” watching both men stand, bow to the master and quietly leave the chambers.

Theed, Naboo

The crowds were flocking to the arena where the tournament would be held. The only weapons to be used: lightsabers, Obi-Wan and Anakin had discovered they weren’t the only Jedi competing. The King had asked strictly only Jedi to participate. Obi-Wan and Anakin followed their fellow competitors into the arena as the crowd was taking their seats;

“Nervous, brother?’ Anakin asked with a mischievous smirk as Obi-Wan shook his head;

“I’m going to do my best and prove how much of a Jedi I am. You should be worried, we could be facing each other,” Obi-Wan teased as Anakin laughed;

“We’ll really give the crowd their money’s worth if it came to that,” he noted lining up with their competitors in the middle of the arena. The crowd cheered once more as Obi-Wan and Anakin both looked up at the royal box, seeing two figures, one male, one female, dressed quite elegantly entering the box. Obi-Wan squinted; the female looked familiar before he heard Anakin speak.

“That must be the princess,” Anakin whispered “She looks so familiar,” he confessed right as the crowd sat back down and the King rose to address the crowd and the competitors;

“Welcome!” he exclaimed “Today we will witness these brave young Jedi fight, to prove how well they have been trained as Jedi,” he went on “They will show how powerful they are, fight for the affections and marriage of my daughter……” his voice trailed off as he offered a hand to his daughter;

“Princess Padmé,” he announced. Obi Wan and Anakin’s eyes widen and their jaws dropped. She was of course familiar to them-she was their friend, their friend they had met on Courscant three years ago. She was a princess! And by the end of this tournament, one of them could be married to her!

Chapter 3: The Pact

Padmé was the princess they were competing for. Never had Obi-Wan and Anakin being in a situation where they were fighting for the same thing. Anakin knew Obi-Wan was really in love with Padmé and he hated to ‘steal’ her away from him. Anakin and Obi-Wan are progressing well in the tournament and yet to fight each other but right before the very first round, they made a pact;

Flashback

“I can’t believe it,” Anakin gasped “I can’t believe it, she’s a princess! A princess!” he exclaimed pacing the tent once more as Obi-Wan was preparing for his first round;

“She was probably told by her security not to reveal her identity to strangers to avoid the chance of being kidnapped for ransom,” Obi-Wan pointed out as Anakin still couldn’t believe his friend was a princess;

“Our friend is a princess!” he exclaimed knowing how his brother felt for her, “You were in love with her, how can you be so calm!?!” he exclaimed as Obi-Wan rose to his feet, looking out of the make shift tent at the royal box where Padmé was dressed in a gorgeous strapped purple dress underneath a dark blue cloak. Her thick curls were pulled back and she wore a sparkling headband on top of her head. She was truly beautiful,

Obi-Wan turned back to his brother, “I suppose it does bother me that the woman I love could become someone else’s wife,” he admits then adds, “I don’t think I could watch her marrying even you, despite being my brother,” he admits.

Anakin felt a lump in his throat as that thought crossed his mind. He liked Padmé but could he marry her knowing her heart would want Obi-Wan.

Anakin looked out at Padmé, then back at his brother, he couldn’t believe the words that he was about to speak;

“Then we make a pact here and now,” he tells him as Obi-Wan curiously turns towards him, one eyebrow raised; “If I win the tournament, I announce that I fought this battle for my brother, my brother shall marry Padmé,” he informs him.

Obi-Wan’s eyes widen, he was speechless-was he hearing his brother correctly? Anakin would hand Padmé over to him despite his crush on her?

“But…Anakin, I know you have a crush on her, what about you?” he asked as Anakin laughed.

“I do and we’ll always be friends but you’re my brother and I can sense her feelings are stronger for you,” he explained as Obi-Wan placed one hand on his brother’s shoulder.

“And if I win?’ he asks as Anakin smiles even more.

“If you win, you win her hand in marriage and her heart,” he informs him as the loud horn was blown: the tournament had began, may the best Jedi win.

Anakin hoped the pact wouldn’t need to be used, he knew his brother was a strong fighter and this tournament would be easy for both of them.

Chapter 4: The Shock Result

The crowd gasped, including the King. Padmé’s hands flew to her mouth, her eyes staring down into the arena at the two fighters. Anakin couldn’t believe what he was seeing: his brother was losing his fight! It was now four days into the tournament and Obi-Wan and Anakin had both made it to the semi finals. Only two would reach the final.

Anakin turned his head away once more as he watched his brother fall to the ground once more. He was facing the Jedi Bruck Chun, Anakin knew the history being his brother and Bruck-he hated Obi-Wan and he wasn’t afraid to show it.

Anakin glanced up at the royal box, seeing Padmé close to tears at watching Obi-Wan, bloodied and already sporting a wound to his shoulder but still pressing on;

“I……won’t……let you win Bruck,” Obi-Wan coughed once back on his feet hearing Bruck laugh.

“I think I will, then I’ll win the whole tournament and win myself a bride,” he scoffed. Obi-Wan shuddered, to imagine Padmé married to this brute, he raised his lightsaber and charged towards him with all his remaining strength but Bruck was faster, lightsaber out in front, he raised high as Obi-Wan continued to run towards him, then Bruck jumped, landing behind him, his lightsaber grazing his leg. He screamed in pain before falling to the ground, his lightsaber rolling away.

Anakin shook his head, he had lost, in all his years, he had never known Obi-Wan to lose even against Bruck!

King Ruwee rose to his feet, Padmé quietly crying in her seat, “The Second finalist through to the final, is Bruck Chun!” he announced as the crowd clapped through still stunned at the outcome as the king went on.

“He will face Anakin Skywalker in the final tomorrow!” he exclaimed. Anakin moved out into the arena, kneeling before his brother hearing the crowd cheer at the mention of his name;

“You should have won brother, you are a much stronger opponent to fight,” Anakin whispered, helping his brother to his feet;

Obi-Wan leaned on Anakin’s shoulder for support. “Just promise me one thing Anakin,” he breathed weakly as Anakin listened.

“Win the tournament Anakin. Do not let Bruck win,” he told him as Anakin nodded.

“I will honor our pact brother. You will marry Padmé,” he assured him leading him off the arena and towards the medical ward.

Chapter 5: A Tender Moment

Obi-Wan was resting in the medical ward after being treated for his wounds. Anakin had decided to leave him rest and exited the ward. He still couldn’t believe what had happened-something wasn’t right- Obi-Wan never lost and he was sure Bruck had found some way to cheat. He would win the battle, for Obi-Wan and Padmé.

Lost in thought, he didn’t see another figure walking towards him till they spoke;

“How is he?” they asked in a soft voice which sounded like they had also been crying. Anakin listed his head seeing the somber face of his friend Padmé looking at him.

“He’s resting now and he’s going to pull through, he’s just crushed at what happened,” he explained sensing Padmé’s sadness, he placed one hand on her shoulder.

“It’s going to be alright in the end, I promise,” he assured her. He decided not to tell her about the pact, keep it as a surprise for tomorrow. Right now she only thought she was going to have Anakin or Bruck fighting for her. Anakin gave her a small kiss on the cheek before slipping away leaving her to exit the medical ward.

The two nurses inside both bowed upon seeing her enter “M’lady,” one spoke as Padmé only gave a small smile; walking up towards Obi-Wan’s bed,

She gently placed one hand on his “I’m sorry Obi-Wan. I should have told you the truth when we first met,” she softly confessed taking his hand in hers “If I had, father wouldn’t be having this tournament and I’d be marrying you,” she cried.

The tears falling down her face, before she felt his other hand on top of hers, she looked up at him, his deep blue eyes staring at her.

“Obi-Wan!” she cried as he smirked

“This is a surprise, your highness,” he confessed, he dare not attempt to sit up at the moment, he felt a twinge of sadness cross his face again “I’m sorry I won’t be fighting in the final,” he told her deciding to keep the pact a secret.

“Anakin will treat you well,” he assured her as Padmé placed both her hands on his face

“But I chose you!” she cried. “Ever since I met you, I loved you, all these years and I’ve not forgotten about you! I can’t love another when my heart belongs to you!” she exclaimed, overwhelm with emotion she ran from the medical ward leaving Obi-Wan laying there.

He wished he was fighting tomorrow, against Anakin. Bruck won’t be an easy competitor and because it’s Anakin he’ll attempt to destroy him and all Obi-Wan would be able to do is watch, hoping Anakin wins and fulfills the pact.

Chapter 6: The Final Round

The end of the tournament was drawing near. The sun was rising and the crowds were proceeding over towards the arena.

A quiet Padmé, along with her two handmaidens Sabé and Dormé followed her father out of the palace and across to the arena.

While Anakin was helping his brother out of the medical ward and into a seat where he would be able to watch the battle.

“You should be preparing yourself and not taking care of me,” Obi-Wan insisted as Anakin only laughed.

“I’m well prepared Obi-Wan. I’ve even had time to warn Bruck that he’s not going to win,” he smirked as Obi-Wan gave a laugh.

“Bruck’s a fool if he thinks he can beat you,” Obi-Wan confessed. “He got lucky yesterday,” he added as Anakin clapped a hand on his shoulder.

“He won’t get lucky twice,” he assured her as they both heard a scoff.

“Come on Sky Jerk, get moving. The sooner we fight, the sooner I can kiss my new bride!” he spat as Anakin rolled his eyes, and followed him out into the arena right as King Ruwee rose once more;

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached the final battle of this thrilling tournament!” he declared as the crowd cheered once more.

“We have two powerful competitors here today and the winner shall marry my lovely daughter,” he reminded them. Padmé remained still and quiet however did notice Anakin give a small wink to her. She tilted her head curiously. “What is he planning?” she wondered.

“Good luck to both of you,” he told them looking over at one of his guards “Begin!” he cried right as they all heard the horn sound.

Anakin turned to face Bruck, with his white hair slicked back and icy blue eyes glaring back at him, they both ignited their lightsabers;

“I’ll flatten you like I flatten you foolish brother Sky Jerk,” he scoffed as Anakin shook his head.

“Are you going to attack or just stand there taunting me?” he asked before Bruck leapt towards him, lightsaber high, however Anakin raised his lightsaber, blades clashing together, before Anakin force pushed him back then leapt over him, taking Bruck by surprise.

“What the……?” he gasped spinning around, finding Anakin standing there grinning at him.

“Come on, even the training droids give a better fight than you,” he taunted, seeing Bruck become angrier and leapt at him, their blades clashing once more as they fought across the arena, the crowd cheering watching as Bruck had pushed Anakin up against the wall.

Obi-Wan’s eyes widen. “Anakin, get behind him, he’ll trap you,” he thought watching Anakin edging closer to the wall;

Bruck sneered. “I’m about to give the crowd their winner,” he informed him as Anakin grinned;

“I don’t think so,” he snapped, force pushing him back, he leapt again, and this time his blade came into contact with Bruck’s shoulder and thigh causing him to scream in pain.

Anakin looked at the young man before him, clutching his wounds in pain, still with his cold glare at him.

“Had enough?” Anakin only asked as Bruck laughed, and instead of a reply, he moved his lightsaber towards Anakin’s arm ready to slice it off however Anakin leapt back, force pushing him, straight into the wall of the arena!

Bruck’s eyes rolled back before he slumped unconscious. Anakin breathed hard as the crowd remained still, then after realizing what had happened, jumped to their feet, cheering loudly. Obi-Wan smiled-he had done it, he had won the tournament.

Padmé smiled before she followed her father out onto the arena towards Anakin. The moment had come- Ruwee would announce Anakin as the winner and give permission for him to marry her but neither of them were ready for Anakin’s own announcement.

Chapter 7: Anakin’s Promise

“An excellent performance my boy,” Ruwee beamed “You truly gave the crowd a worthy fight. Your father will be proud of you as will the Jedi,” he assured him as Anakin bowed to him, watching Ruwee extend a hand to his daughter.

“As promised, my daughter Princess Padmé, your bride, I know that you will protect her with all your heart and skills,” he told him as Anakin looked back at Obi-Wan at the same time Padmé stepped forward, her lovely brown eyes staring back at him.

“I’m yours,” she breathed with a smile that warmed his heart like it had all those years ago. Anakin smiled.

“Thank you your highness, but I’m afraid I must confess something,” he replied. Ruwee looked stunned.

“What is it my boy?” he asked as Anakin smiled.

“I fought today, not just for my honor but for my brother Obi-Wan’s honor as well and we had a secret pact,” he announced. Padmé watched him curiously.

“Anakin, what are you doing?” she whispered as Anakin smirked.

“Had yesterday’s fight being fair, I would have been fighting my brother today and alas that did not happen and we had made a pact,” he announced. The crowd watched stunned, wondering what the young Jedi was talking about.

“It is my wish that Princess Padmé marries my brother and Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi,” he declares. The King’s face drops as the crowd gasps, Padmé is speechless while Anakin just smiles.

Padmé throws her arms around Anakin. “Oh Anakin, you’re the most bravest, honest, wonderful friend I can ever have,” she cried through tears of happiness as Anakin hugged her.

“You’ll always have me as your friend,” he assured her hugging her close, wiping the tears from her face.

“Now, go and kiss your future husband,” he teased watching her rush across the arena towards where Obi-Wan was sitting as Ruwee turned back to Anakin.

“I’ve never met a man more noble, unselfish and brave than what I just witnessed,” he confessed as Anakin bowed once more.

“I saw it in her eyes when she saw my brother and it would be cruel to make her love me when her heart was with another man,” he insisted shrugging “And we’ll always be friends and family,” he observed watching Padmé help Obi-Wan to his feet.

Padmé threw her arms around Obi-Wan, then placed her hands on his face as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Your highness,” he smirked cheekily as Padmé only responded with a passionate kiss on his lips.

“You have a wonderful brother,” she whispered as Obi-Wan looked back over at Anakin who chatting with the King.

“Yes, he is one of a kind,” he admitted looking into her soft brown eyes.

“And now we’ll always be together,” he promised her making her smile even more.

“I love you Obi-Wan Kenobi,” she confessed as Obi-Wan held her close.

“I love you Princess Padmé Naberrie,” he replied and right there, in front of the crowd, the Jedi, Anakin and her father, Padmé and Obi-Wan shared another romantic kiss. Anakin may have won the tournament but Obi-Wan won the real prize- his true love Padmé.
